The Heights Community Engagement Workgroups

The City’s Master Plan is approved and it’s our job to bring this plan to life. During this time, we will work with community member to gather feedback that will guide development decisions. In fact, we have committed to four topic-specific workgroups in 2022. Conversations started with urban design and sustainability. Soon they will transition to housing and outdoor spaces.

Housing

Sessions kicked-off in June 2022

Workgroup Members and Meeting Minutes

We received 68 applications for the housing workgroup. As a result, we used a scoring model to narrow the selection down to the 10 candidates that we believe best represent the neighborhood. Meetings will be held on Thursday evenings throughout the summer. Conversations will focus on community priorities related to the housing mix and affordability levels.

Outdoor Spaces

Sessions expected to start in the fall of 2022

This summer we will recruit 10 members to focus on outdoor spaces. Since the City will manage the 5-acre park, this group will provided feedback on the remaining 15-acres of green space. Concepts to discuss could include about wetlands, stormwater management, public art, and other community spaces.

Urban Design

Sessions completed in June 2022

The Urban Design Workgroup met every other Thursday January through May, 2022. In these meetings, they collaborated with the Port Team about the design framework as it relates to streets, blocks, lots, and buildings. Following these meetings, videos, meeting minutes, and workgroup recommendations were posted online.

Sustainability

The Sustainability Workgroup met once per month January through May, 2022, to provide guidance carbon-free strategies for The Heights. Following these meetings, videos, meeting minutes, and workgroup recommendations were posted online.
